I've rarely seen HD content on YouTube, on most videos the button is for HQ (High Quality, still shitty). Decent article Drew.

Wow, its amazing that this article didn't mention http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_artifact . Deadmau5 isn't talking about "Highs" and "Lows" (This must have been stolen from a B.S. vinyl vs mp3 argument!), Deadmau5 is talking about the file being damaged from many transdecods. It doesn't take an audophile to hear the difference.

I totally agree with Deadmau5, its sad that such a large collection of audio has been permanently damaged by Google.

This is one of the reasons I like private trackers like what.cd. Since everyone has an account, everyone is accountable, and uploaders are responsible for the audio quality of what they upload. If you upload a transcode, you get banned.

Youtube is a *video* sharing service, it's never pretended to be an audiophiles paradise, this is like blaming Micky Dees for not having steak tartare on the menu.
And to be honest they're too low on your food chain to make a difference, if people are transcoding in MP3, which is a *lossy* format then the damage's already done. Youtube couldn't fix it even if they were in that line of business, and they're not, they're in the video streaming business remember ?
