open source is vital to a green society along with the defence of common property rights, the pirate party in the european parliament sits with the Green Party group which has launched an anti copyright campaign.

Incidentally Richard Warman did some good work on the David Icke issue, Icke was promoting holocaust revisionism...that thought is another debate.

As a former candidate for the Green Party, I have no problem with the pirate party existing in Canada for the sake of raising the issues, although I would encourage them not to field more than the minimum number of candidates needed to maintain their party status and hope they would not run against our more serious candidates, unless they see a material difference in policy.

Our stance on copyright and patents is very similar and we are home to some candidates who do in fact make it a serious part of their platform, so they would be attracting voters who may support us, while presenting no substantial policy difference on core issues.

As to the last poster, I have never heard of the pirate party having a stance on "absolute freedom" to the inclusion of hate speech or serious libel.

It is obvious on this that you are trying to impose your own distorted values on that movement.

They are against private ownership of public information, using technology to limit consumer choice, and protecting individuals from surveillance.

It is not unfetter freedom that the pp supports, it is ending the legal protection of corporate and arbitrary government abuses.

I'm not defending the CHRC in its entirety (as it lacks proper due course), nor Warman's excessive use of libel suits which occurred after he served as a candidate a few years ago, however, even Michael Geist conceded that there is justification in blocking foreign websites that violate hate laws (and in some of these cases were threatening violence against Warman) if done in a transparent matter and with proper legal recourse for all sides.

The Green Party is way off base on their support for so called "freedom", which is the core issue for what the Pirate Party strives to attain.

Over the course of the past 10 years, the Green Party has proven that it is in fact no friend of freedom. They have weighed in heavily in support of internet censorship and the, now embattled, Canadian Human Rights Commission.

One of the most high-profile Green Party candidates is Richard Warman. Warman, has gain notoriety with is repeated, and sometimes exaggerated, complaints with the HRCs that has resulted in numerous lifetime gag orders of individuals making "offensive statements" online. This same candidate put in a motion to the CRTC to pass legislation to allow ISPs to block access to certain websites. Had this succeeded, ISP could have been instructed to ban access to domains based on arbitrary, vague guidelines, much like the legal process of the Human Rights Tribunals.

The CORE of the copyright issue is the topic of Freedoms. The Green Party of Canada, is in no way a friend of individual freedoms. Their stance has been clear.
