MPAA’s ‘Lucky and Flo’ now unleashed on the Philippines

Malaysia crime bosses sigh in relief, step up porn production to offset losses, while Philippino movie pirates try to stash their goods before the canine cops can sniff it out.

The MPAA’s Lucky and Flo, the polycarbonate sniffing canine wonder duo, have apparently finished up their Malaysian crime-fighting adventures and have shown up in another Asian country to the north — the Philippines.

They made their debut in a stunning daylight raid through the Makati Cinema Square Mall in the Manila capital, sending stall owners scurrying to stash their pirated goods or lock up their stores behind steel shutters.

The two female dogs were wearing neon vests stamped with their names stamped across, and in the first hour alone apparently sniffed out 300,000 pirated discs.

Neil Gane, MPA-International senior director of operations, said that “Lucky and Flo will be here for a considerable amount of time and we will be going all over Manila, and we are also contemplating going all over the Philippines.”

“As you can see, the dogs have been very, very effective.”

This new crime-fighting adventure comes on the heels of their exploits in Malaysia where they helped authorities seize more than 1.3 million pirated discs and burners with a street value of about $3.3 million USD.

It was after that stunning raid that “syndicate bosses” offered a reported $14,286 USD bounty on each of the dogs heads, sending them into the Malaysian “witness protection program” where they were shuttled from safehouse to safehouse under tight security.

The real kicker is that to offset financial losses incurred due to the CD-sniffing duo, Malaysian pirates stepped up their porn production efforts which includes a sizable number featuring underage girls, i.e. child porn. So now apparently “Apocalytpo” is in short supply but “Not Even Barely Legal” isn’t. Great work MPAA.

“The pirates make more money selling pornographic discs,” said Fahmi Kassim, chief enforcement officer at Johor’s domestic trade ministry.

“What is disturbing is this growing proof that the piracy syndicates are working with the pornographic industry, especially when the seized items now include child pornography,” said Neil Gane, senior operations executive of the MPAA.

Considering that they don’t have to worry about copyright infringement by making and distributing their own movies, its a no-brainer that that’s what they would gravitate too if the MPAA turns up the heat on pirated Hollywood-produced titles.

So, can we now say that the MPAA indirectly contributes to the production of child porn? You be the judge but, it sure does make one hell of an argument to put the leash back on the CD-sniffing unit and retire them to a peaceful farm somewhere.

The dogs seem pretty cool for what they can do but the MPAA needs to seriously calm down about piracy!
