The downturn in traffic has almost nothing to do with P2P, it's because of scene "topsites", if you want to call them that, closing.

I saw the effect this had on the scene first hand. Dozens of sites and rings closed. Mostly lower level sites/dumps with crappy or no affils mind you, but scene sites nonetheless.

Decent sites already had a handle on security anyway, so aren't all that bothered about the new law. It's only recently that some of these crappier sites started enforcing SSL transfers, believe it or not...

I imagine there'll be an amount of p2p guys who decided to stop, but I doubt p2p guys changing tack would've made such an impact on traffic. They'd start using VPN services, so using the same amount of .se traffic, or using seedboxes hosted elsewhere. They'd still need to get files on and off their seedboxes, I guess, but it'd be interesting to see what kind of spike in traffic OVH/Leaseweb/Server.lu saw for the couple of weeks before and after the introduction of the new law.

I'm wondering what will happen now. Will people just downgrade their services now they've no need for 100/100? That will hurt .se ISPs a lot. I'd imagine 90% of .se traffic was kept within .se, so there would've been a nice profit in selling 100/100. The small difference in cost between 10/10 and 100/100 suggests this too. These people will still be using as much, if not more, external bandwidth now, and paying less for it...

[...] Swedish Internet Traffic Still Down Almost 50% ZEROPAID It’s been a little over two months now since Sweden passed legislation allowing copyright holders to petition courts to force ISPs to turn over the personal information of suspected file-sharers via an IP address. Immediately after the law took effect on April 1st Internet traffic plunged from almost 200Gbps to 110Gbps. One Swedish ISP voiced his displeasure with the drop and I’m sure he’s not alone. “Half the Internet is gone,” said Jon Karlung, chief executive of Banhof. “If this pattern keeps up, it means the extensive broadband network we’ve built will lose its significance.” Source> [...]

Hmmmm, could this be because 1 download does not equal one lost sale.
