when are people going to wise up to the fact that not all p2p traffic is piracy

I used to run a tracker and I can vouch for that statement

We’re told that 60% of the traffic on the net is from p2p/torrents – And it may well be – Who really knows?

But interestingly (and I think quite alarmingly) our experience was that anything between 20% and 25% of the traffic was from anti-piracy organisations – Take that fake traffic away and if the 60% figure is correct there’d be an immediate 15% drop in total data transfer across the entire network and a commensurate freeing up of bandwidth for all the network operators from the Tier-1 backbones at the top right down to the small ISP bandwidth resellers

So why don’t the ISPs and backbones throttle or restrict those organisations directly? It would be relatively easy for them to do given that they generally have well-defined blocks of the IP address space

yes it is present BUT there are so many open source software houses that put out their content via bit torrent!
