OscarTorrents — new BitTorrent tracker site has all this years nominees

OscarTorrents is the Oscars as it should be — everyone can download the year’s nominations using the popular BitTorrent service, watch the movies, then use our rating system to choose their favorites. Why restrict the voting to a few bought-off jurors when the whole world can have their say?”.

There’s a ingenious new site called OscarTorrents that conveniently links to all of this year’s Oscar nominees as well as incorporates a voting system so that users can vote for their picks in each category.

It lists each nominee by category and then provides their associated link on the pubic tracker site that contains the appropriate torrent.

From the site:

OscarTorrents is the Oscars as it should be — everyone can download the year’s nominations using the popular BitTorrent service, watch the movies, then use our rating system to choose their favorites. Why restrict the voting to a few bought-off jurors when the whole world can have their say?

Doesn’t get much better than that.

After you’ve viewed each nominee you’re encouraged to vote for whom you think best deserves to win an Oscar in that category.

The site continues:
Once you’ve watched a film, you can vote on it — but please, do watch before you vote! On Oscars night, we’ll post your results right along with the ‘official’ ones. Of course this is the way it should be done now that movie distribution is almost free. Hollywoodland might not like it, but some people always have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the future.

Each of the Oscar categories are listed, with each having its page that provides a brief description by title and then link to the torrent tracker so that you can download the title using BitTorrent.

Here are the links to the individual categories:

I've been interested in P2P since the early, high-flying days of Napster and KaZaA. I believe that analog copyright laws are ill-suited to the digital age, and that art and culture shouldn't be subject to the whims of international entertainment industry conglomerates. Twitter | Google Plus

That is what I thought...so that means that this site MUST be out of US jurisdiction......

If you link directly to .torrent files and your servers are in the US trouble will find you.

Well what about sites like lokitorrents and others that got busted for having torrents on their site? They didn't directly link to any file either that I am aware of. But they still got their sites taken down. Unless this site is in another country than the US I wouldn't bet on them satying up long. Even then I hope they are in the same country that TPB is in.

Well they are not directly linking to any torrent files so they are not breaking any laws.

Ok I am confused. Is this site thumbing their nose at hollywood like TPB? As I guess this would be completely illegal in the US......

This is good. I tried to get sky anywhere movie download service to work last night (as I pay for the top Sky package) but I couldn't because of the DRM refused to work. Oscar torrents is way better and no DRM. I would be willing to pay £45 for this for a month. I love the Oscars and this makes them even better.
