The Pirate Bay goes HD-DVD

posted by soulxtc in bittorrent // 685 days 1 hour 14 minutes ago

The BitTorrent search engine praises the first HD DVD uploader and notes that other HD DVD titles are available.

In a recent post on The Pirate Bay's blog, they praise the uploader who goes by the username "Lyzz" for making Pirate Bay history and being the first to post an HD DVD content tracker on their site.

They write:

HD-DVD movies on The Pirate Bay!

It was just a matter of time, and now they are here!

Yesterday the user Lyzz became historical by posting the first HD-DVD movie on our fine tracker. It was the action sci fi movie The Chronicles of Riddick, and today Batman Begins came along. They are about 20 GB each, so we recommend some fast broadband (moving to Sweden should take care of that) and a superfast computer to take care of the 1080p video

HD DVD movies made their debut on BitTorrent just a few days ago, and it seems as though they are slowly appearing on torrent tracker sites everywhere.

The first movie to appear was "Serenity" but, it appears The Pirate Bay has more titles available than this just that, and include "Pitch Black," "Batman Begins," and "The Chronicles of Riddick." However, with file sizes ranging from 21.37GB, 24.76GB, and 24.94GB respectively, you better have a solid connection speed if you hope to ever finish downloading them in the year 2007.

As for uploading, at least they're hosted on a public torrent tracker site that doesn't enforce share-ratios, for even my semi-fancy broadband connection is limited to a mere 72 kB/s. If the tracker for any of the three were hosted on a private torrent tracker site, heaven knows how long I'd have to seed the file for.

In any event, it's cool to see HD-DVD content make its way onto BitTorrent so quickly.

Also to note, they have for download "Backup HD-DVD" which claism to be able to make copies of your HD-DVDs for safe-keeping.

It's info section reads:

B a c k u p H D - D V D F A Q

-What is \"Backup HDDVD\" for?

It can do backup copies of HD DVD movies that YOU OWN! I don't want anyone to do piracy here! This software is a good way to protect your investment, because I have notice that this type of media seems very fragile, if it\'s scratched a little or dirty, it won\'t play. It seems less tolerent than DVD format. (Higher density!)

-What \"Backup HDDVD\" is doing exactly?

This is a java based command line utility that decrypt video files (.evo) from a HD DVD disk that you own, to your hard drive and you can play them back with a HD DVD player software.

-What are the system requirements to use \"Backup HDDVD\"

1 - A Windows based system

2 - A HDDVD disk drive

3 - A HDDVD player software (like PowerDVD)

4 - A HDDVD movie(s)

5 - Java rutime 1.5

6 - The possibility to access the content of the disk with a drive letter under windows.

(you may need UDF 2.5 file system driver for this)

7 - A lot of free hard disk space to backup your movies!

I just wonder if it really works......

:Digg!

Which is exactly why I use newsgroups. No muss...no fusss....JUST max speed downloading and no worries about having to up it back to a private BT site again!

And as far as BT goes (even private sites) ...it still will not max out your connection like newsgroups...which you NEED to download an HD DVD movie in a decent amount of time. Especially for this type of content.

  • #2    See, i wanna grab one or two of them, but the user count is so low it worries me getting "busted" if there were a few thousand SE/LE i think more people would be jumping on. Maybe i will give it a few days.

I know, that is my entire concern, maybe they will not bother with the few who are doing it now; maybe they want the pot to grow bigger? I have no clue, all i know is that i do not want to be in a swarm of the first cracked HD DVD with only 40 other people. Very easy target.
