Value Redifined

What filesharing shows us is just how much corporations hate not having all the power. Rather than having them define what has value for us, we re-define it for them. Maybe it is time for society as a whole to do the same, change the very meaning of what we value, how we value it, and who gets to have it. Maybe money should not be the measure or reason for quality in a thing, or the motivation behind success and goodwill. Remember, when people use words like stealing and crime, those words have been defined for us. They don’t have to be our own meanings. No one wants to see anyone hurt by filesharing, but the attitudes against it are made up of elements that are inherently corrupt. Ultimately, we are showing that popularity should not always be rewarded with power, i.e., Microsoft, riaa, mpaa, etc. And, in the end, in a small way, we have the opportunity to change the world from what we’re told it has to be and mold it into what we think it should be.
