Quote "Moreover this move is another bold step forward for The People's Republic of China who have a knack for ingenuity and resolve that when coupled with a sense of patriotism and national interest make for an almost unstoppable economic and technological powerhouse. " End Quote.

The Bias oozing out of this article is unstoppable that is certain. China is a huge manufacturing country yes but they invent very very little. Nor is anything engineered in china (that is of any significance anyway) The United States Japan and Europe Design Engineer and Innovate The Chinese Build.

Biased? Wouldn't I have to be Chinese. How could I be biased?

Certainly they rip off a lot of other people's designs and inventions that's a fact. Look at the burgeoning car manufacturing complex in China can u imagine what a car will cost when guys are paid 10cents an hour instead of 30 bucks plus benefits?

The "ingenuity and resolve" Im referring to is the fact that they do whatever it takes to produce and manufacturer items "in-house." They have a highly educated workforce that exploits our own country's short-sightedness and quest for short term profits.

And many times they reverse-engineer stuff we have them manufacture like a type of car engine made by Ford that I cant recall off hand. Surely thats ingenuous right?

Furthermore its hard to discern who has the moral high ground here them for stealing our products and designs though if one can call them stealing if we partner with them in the first place like idiots is dubious or us for exploiting 12 billion people and paying them 2 cents an hour to make a pair pants we can then buy at Wal-MArt for 5 bucks.....who's more in the wrong?

Its their patriotic and nationalist sentiments that make them so potent for look at the alternative in the US.......almost the complete destruction of our manufacturing and textile industries loss of good paying blue-cllar middle-class jobs all the while the suits in the ivory towers watch their stocks go up a point or two.

Maybe the statement was unclear but this is what I meant without getting too political. IT was a nice way of saying...

"Watch out because China takes care of its own and the govt as well as its people are willing to do whatever it takes to win and they have the education and the resolve to do so."

Hope thats a bit clearer..and.....actually think I will change it.... :P.......done...better?

Bias as in people over exaggerating Chinas' abilities (some people of certain political views have a tendancy to do that; not necessarily you).

As far as reverse engineering is concerned would YOU want a chinese engine? Anything of mechanical complexity made in china is shit. Back on topic I was not intending to undermine the main focus of the story and that is Chinas' nationalist pride and patriotism. These are very good things for a society and brings forth the desire for freedom (as evidenced by their economic policies)

I think we essentially agree.......surely I wouldnt want a Chinese made engine either but the same was said about the same Japanese products a few decades ago and look at them now......

and you're right nationalism and patriotism are very important because at the end of the day what kind of jobs do you want your country to have? What kind of jobs can blue-collar workers here in the US expect to have 10 years from now if there is even a middle-class left?

...and yes after George Bush Sr. wrote off the Chinese protestors in Tianemmen square they figured that we really dont care about democracy and instead are concerned only with our own interests....but oddly enough their economic growth has done more for democracy and freedom in China than we ever could have.......money and technology have a funny way of doing that.....
