Portable Video Players

With all the portable devices out now, there is a wave of video storage devices that have crossed my path. I read about them, see commercials and notice the sales papers that advertise them. If you are looking for a portable video player during this time of year, let me show you a few choices that I have found to be the most affordable.

The Wolverine ESP is first on my list. This video storage device comes in 80-120GB size options. There is an ESP Cradle System available (sold separately) and remotes, batteries and cases that you can buy for extra power and handy carrying. The ESP Wolverine data site has a listing of all the prices and storage sizes. Let me give you some of the details of the video player so that you will be more informed.

The Wolverine ESP has a menu that looks very easy to navigate. The site shows the 80GB viewer has a shipping weight of 5 lbs. but the details show that the player itself only weighs 10.2 oz. with a battery. This player has a 3.6″ viewable screen which gives you plenty of space yet keeps it portable. Stores digital photos, music and videos so that you can put most anything on the device and carry your favorites with you.

This makes the Wolverine ESP a perfect companion to a digital camera, adding functionality that some laptops just won’t give you. Easier to carry and utilize, the portable video players give you far more options when planning trips or outings with your camera. Professional and amateur photographers will have plenty of storage for digital photos while out in the field.

The Wolverine ESP has key features outlined on the site as follows:

o Download images directly from any digital camera without a computer
o Use it to backup and carry all your digital images
o Display JPEG, Bitmap, Tiff, Text and RAW images (most popular SLR Cameras)
o Print directly to printers

When it comes to music options, the site outlines:

o Supports five music Formats: MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, AAC (MP4-audio) & CDA
o Easy, drag and drop music files from your computer and play them instantly

Video formats supported include MPEG-1, MPEG-4, WMV9 and Xvid, offering you plenty of choices when viewing movies. Another nice feature is the FM Radio where you can scan your favorite stations and record any talk shows or music that you find.

What many don’t realize about portable video players is that you can plug them into your TV or video system at home and view saved movies, too. Also is the ability to hook the system up to your stereo set-up (or someone else’s) and share music. Show slideshows of your favorite photos or watch stored movies on the go.

The display is 320×240 pixels and the Wolverine ESP site boasts the following digital storage cards are supported, and it’s a generous list. The CF/Microdrive, SD/MMC, MS and MS-Pro and XD Card Adapter are included with options to purchase additional adapters for the MS-Duo, MS Pro-Duo, Mini-SD, RS-MMC and they claim a transfer speed of 5MB/sec. from high-speed CF cards.

The player dimensions are 5.3″x2.8″x0.9″ in. (W x H x D) which makes it a wonderful compact player. With the included battery, the player will play up to 13 hours of music and 4 hours of video or 20GB of memory cards data transfer.

Also included is the headphone option (for private viewing in public places, perhaps?) and a built-in microphone so that you can record your own voice or lectures you attend and wish to review later. Upon purchase of the Wolverine ESP you get the Wolverine ESP (battery included), user documentation and CD, AC charger, USB cable, Audio/Video cable (to connect to TV), Earphone, carrying case.

This player has a one year limited warranty. The pricing starts at $399.99 and goes up to $499.99 (for the larger storage option) and accessories are priced around $19.99 to $49.99 which is extremely reasonable for remotes or extra batteries. The built-in 7-in-1 card reader makes many storage options possible.

With the optional cradle you can also record video from your TV, DVD, VCR or Camcorder (and other video sources) and you can use the ESP as a DVR with this method. Record your favorite show the night before and watch it while riding the train or bus to work. Or, take a break during the day and catch up on the news reports from the early morning.

If you didn’t already know all the options available to you, then I hope this overview of the Wolverine ESP has helped you get the basics down. I will be reviewing a few other portable video devices in the future so that you can compare pricing and options and make the best choice for your personal needs.

I pretty much thought MP3 players were video players.. I mean they’re no longer just mp3 players. They’re Multimedia players… So I would probably just buy an MP3/Video player like the zune or something if I needed video. PSP works fairly well though

I rock a media player all the time i would never buy a bulky mp3 player. But i would buy a small one for the gym or for running around town. The media players are great for long trips car rides and planes. I do like the psp cause you can play games but the storage sucks balls… so i really don’t bring it anywhere.

I was thinking as you have that having one in a car or airplane makes much more sense. I think the idea of this compared to an MP3 player is the huge storage capacity. It’s definitely for die-hard moviegoers and not the average video browser. Harsh review Jorge of the PSP…is that the only bad thing about it?
