Bram Cohens wild week of gossip

In a new e-mail interview with Wired, Bram Cohen once again lays to rest any doubts that he is leaving BitTorrent.

The interview comes on the heels of last week’s widespread speculation that he was being forced out of BitTorrent Inc.

GigaOM first started the rumormill that he was leaving with their comments that “… founder and CEO Bram Cohen being replaced by a more seasoned manager, and apparently have hired a head hunter, to lead the search.” They furthered the statement by saying that they had “…confirmed this information.”

Soon after, P2P.net ran story that he was in fact leaving BitTorrent altogether, which then blurred the line between him leaving BitTorent Inc. or simply changing his position and role within the company. The story was then quickly followed by an update where Cohen informed them that “…I’m still happily on board at BitTorrent, and not going anywhere.” Story resolved.

Slyck then ran a piece that helped to further lay to rest any doubts that he was going anywhere. In it Bram tells Slyck that “I’m still happily at BitTorrent, and most definitely not on my way out.”

The most conclusive story on his status at BitTorrent Inc., comes from Wired today and is the latest bit of evidence that Bram isn’t going anywhere.

Wired doesn’t really get into much detail but, Bram does say that “You can’t believe everything you read in the tabloid rags,” and that the rumors of his departure made for a “…big laugh…around the office.”

From what I’ve heard he’s simply changing titles, going from the “suits and back to his roots,” from CEO to programming and technology development.

With all the new mega deals going on between Hollywood and BitTorrent Inc., they do need a seasoned and well-versed manager to lead the company into these new and uncharted waters.

Bram Cohen will always be an important and valuable asset to BitTorrent Inc, and will surely always be regarded as an intrinsic part of the company he founded.
