In a report from the AP, “Internal data such as information concerning US military operations in Iraq have recently been leaked to the Internet from a privately owned personal computer of a (Japanese)Air Self-Defense Force member loaded with a file sharing software.”
A first lieutenant in Japanese the ASDF apparently took his own laptop to for an assignment in Qatar, host to the US military command, and used it for for his official duties without authorization from his commanding officers.
Upon returning to Japan he failed to delete the data as ordered after the incident was discovered by Defense Agency Director General Fumio Kyuma, and copied the data to an external HDD which he then connected to another PC containing the Japanese file-sharing software Winny.
The Japanese P2P program had apparently also contained a computer virus which played an unclear role in the leak.
Forget movie piracy, who knew low-level P2P direct connect programs could compromise our troop’s security? I hate to say it but, what an idiot this guy is. Guess he’s never heard of BitTorrent.

Wow that sucks. I’m sure it doesn’t matter that much though. I doubt Iraqi Viet Cong monitor japanese P2P netowrks for military intelligence and even if they got ahold of it the US troops would own them anyway.
