A Finnish court has ordered 22 men to pay 427,000 euros (540,000 dollars) in fines for illegal online sharing of copyrighted films, music and games, news reports said Friday. The Turku district court ruling was handed down Thursday. The case was described as the country’s largest illegal file-sharing case.
The fines were based on one tenth of the estimated sales value of the copyrighted material.
Some 10,000 users were estimated to have accessed the material via the file-sharing network Finnreactor, which was operated August to December 2004.
The men were also ordered to pay legal costs of 142,000 euros (180,000 dollars).
In all 33 people were charged but the court threw out the cases against 11.
