SymTorrent brings BitTorrent to mobile phones

For those of you with with smartphones running the Symbian OS, SymTorrent is a new BitTorrent client server that you can use to download and upload files on the go.

SymTorrent is the “…first full-featured and complete BitTorrent client for the Symbian OS and supports “…downloading multiple torrent files at the same time, is capable of both downloading and uploading and can save the status of your unfinished torrents.” It claims you can also “…resume the downloads after restarting the application…(and)check the status of each file inside a torrent along with several other statistics and properties during download.”SymTorrent is available for mobile phone devices based on the S60 Platform 3rd edition.

There is also another popular mobile file-sharing application, Symella, a Gnutella client for Symbian OS that is available as well.

The only drawback I can see in all of this is that it would only be worthwhile to use if you were simply downloading a few songs or sharing some small files with others. Otherwise, the roaming fees and connection charges would make it entirely cost prohibitive.

Digg!
