Reply W/QuoteIn Grokster, once in a while I take a look at the files an uploader has to share. Seems like more often than not the query result says there are no files being shared. What is the proper thing to do? It bugs me that people are file takers but not sharers. Am I just supposed to ignore this? Is there software that I can use to ID and block access by freeloaders? Grokster/Kazaa dont have any tools for blocking freeloaders. |

Reply W/QuoteSearch for more from this user… twice at least, coz of potential connection probs can also cause ’search ended without result’ message.
2. If no files shared (or just crap like KMD desktop), send a message suggesting they share at least something (often people willl then start)
3. If they don’t start sharing (or message is ignored), count how many uploads you have, then subtract the number of those uploads that are by leeches. (e.g. 10 uploads total, minus 3 by leeches = 7)
4. Go to Tools > Options > Advanced. Change Simultaneous Uploads from 10 to 7.
5. NOW cancel the leeches. Because the number of uploads has been reduced, they can’t just restart.
Another method is to go to My KaZaa, select the file the leech is downloading, right-click and choose ‘Stop Sharing’. Then cancel the leech. They can’t restart straight away or even later. Nice folks already uploading that file can continue. When you think it’s safe, go back to that file, right-click and choose ‘Start Sharing’.
NB: I only do this to high-bandwidth leeches. I figure people on dial-up deserve a break.

Hope this was informative. My view on leechers is this: If you want to take take take then you must share share share. Otherwise the whole file-sharing concept is lost. Please post your views on leeching. -Dr. Fileshare
