We recently reported that Microsoft Vista has a protection set up that keeps hackers away from the software. Basically, it makes you register, and if you don’t do it within the timeframe given (30 days) you get the boot. Yes, out of your own system, in some cases. Locked out with only an hour available at a time to get back in and try to register the program.
Microsoft Takes Steps to Lock Pirates OUT
Not only do I find this extreme but they’ve added to it. Vista is now limited to only one change of system. If you have Vista on a system and want to change the license to another system or maybe your laptop, they say fine, but that system is the only change you can make. Never again can you change the system choice.
Vista is limited to ONE license change and I’m not sure if any excuses will get you past the Microsoft team.
Also, in the license, Microsoft forbids users from installing Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium in virtual machines. “You may not use the software installed on the licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system,” it reads. Vista Ultimate and Vista Business can be installed within a VM.
It also states that when Vista periodically goes to recheck and validate the software, and if any changes are found, it will severely limit the use of the software functionality if not properly licensed.
I think that’s way too much information transferring between systems. Even those that legally obtain Vista will have to jump through hoops to keep it on their systems. How unfair is that?

Macs are lookin better every day.
You would think with how cheap macs have gotten microsoft would be trying harder to lock people into their operating system.
This will not last long….it will take a court order to take it out but it will go to court over this!
I guess it is WindowsXP until 2040 for me.
unfortunatly m$ alienates the basic user because of a few pirates. the ones who pirate are not going to suddenly turn around and say actually 500quid for an OS is quite a fair price. mac and linux are gonna have a field day. on a side note vista new gui is nothing special its like installing windowblinds.
They can keep this rubbish as far as I am concerned– unless it is hacked I would never purchase it.
I WANT TO CONTROL MY OS!!!!
I’m with you all I will stick with XP for ages if I have to. And ajurna makes a good point…that the OS is like installing WindowBlinds. I have heard that more often lately since others are trying it. Makes you wonder just how many “improvements” are being made in comparison to how many “security walls” are being pushed on us with this OS. Maybe they feel XP doesn’t give them enough information about their users so they come out with a new OS that will send information to them and “keep in touch”. XP came close to this…why not?
