Russian download service AllofMP3 has now rifled back against international pressure, part of a growing headache for major labels. AllofMP3 has suddenly become a focal point in upcoming trade negotiations between the United States and Russia, offering yet another spotlight for controlling company MediaServices, Inc. “We’re totally in compliance with Russian law,” said company spokeswoman Ilya Levitov in recent comments to the AFP. Levitov pointed to a “Russian company,” and noted that foreign users are encouraged to “check the laws of the country in which [they] live.”
AllofMP3.com has been enjoying a surge of popularity, thanks to cut-rate, high-quality downloads. Buyers can purchase tracks for just pennies, and even specify the quality and codec of the download. Earlier, British label group BPI vowed to dismantle the destination with legal action, though AllofMP3 has mostly been untouched. The BPI effort, coupled with the latest international episode, have broadened awareness and traffic for the destination.
