Last month Napster claimed that the Record
Industry was colluding to launch it’s online music ventures: pressplay and musicnet.
This was an effort to reduce any copyright infringement bill from
the record industry and to help increase the chances of Napster getting access to
a larger range of music for it’s Paid service. Now Napster has asked a
judge for industry documents to help make an antitrust case against the
leading recording companies. Judge Patel has agreed and ordered the Record
Companies to hand over 500,000 documents to Napster. Napster has now been
given an extensive 10 months to analyze the documents. There is going to be no
short end to the ongoing Napster Lawsuit.
Meanwhile Napster might be on the verge of an acquisition. One of Napster’s original investors has
sued to oust half of the company’s current board of directors,
saying the move was needed soon in light of a pending offer to buy the company.
