Microsoft offering free repairs for all 2005 Xbox 360s

Those Redmond folks are sure on a good news streak. After announcing 1080p upscaling and a delightfully low-priced HD DVD drive for their 360, they’re offering a helping hand to early adopters who haven’t had quite as much fun with the console.

Microsoft is offering free fixes to all problematic Xbox 360s built in 2005, and is sending out refunds to users who paid for repairs to that “three red lights of death” problem or other quirks before this dealio went into effect.

“Now I can have my Xbox 360 fixed that has been sitting on my floor ever since I purchased the new Madden 07. For those of you that don’t know, 30 seconds after I inserted the Madden 07 game, my Xbox gave me the “3 lights of death!”. Well, now I just wonder how long it will take to get a “free” repair”. Atleast it won’t cost me 200 bucks! – jorge at zeropaid.com”

Never touched a MS device unless I had to but does this ‘refund’ or whatever apply this side of the Atlantic as well (the UK) or is it like Apple’s offers on the iPod batts (which we got stiffed on). Bent b*stards the lot of ‘em….

I wonder if this is because of fear of beeing sued. I can see it now legal department comes in and lays it down look either we fix it ourselves or eventually we are going to get a lawsuit which will cost us more money in the long run and will give us alot of negative press. Bill gates being the smart man he is listened.
