How to Rip Music From MySpace

A quick step guide that will show you how to rip audio from MySpace and any other site that allows you to stream music on your PC.

There are many audio files available for playback on the venerable MySpace site yet, very few are available as downloads. There’s a number of ways to bypass this problem and I will cover two of best the methods here for you to use, the first being the easiest.

A. FreeMusicZilla
B. Audacity

FreeMusicZilla

1. Download and install FreeMusicZilla.

2. Open FreeMusicZilla, visit the desired MySpace page, and play the song you want to download. Whatever music track you select will then automatically be grabbed by FreeMusicZilla.

3. Select the grabbed music track and press the DOWNLOAD button. Your download should then begin. Make sure you begin downloading the track before the “Leech Timeout” counter runs out otherwise you’ll have to refresh the page.

EXAMPLE:

In the picture below I used the MySpace page of my buddy DJ Destructo Bunny. He’s a local up and coming hip-hop artist and I urge you to show some support if you like what you hear by either buying a track or two or by trying to check out one of his upcoming shows.

NOTE: FreeMusicZilla places your downloads in the location “C:downloads” by default.

Audacity

1. Download and install Audacity.

yes

2. Now we need to install a LAME MP3 encoding driver so you can save tracks in the .mp3 format.

First download the driver, which you can do here. It’s in ZIP file format, so for those of you who are unfamiliar with what ZIP files are, there’s a guide here at Zeropaid you can take a look at.

erew

Now drag and drop the driver in the location shown below, “C:/WINDOWS/system.”

3. Select “Wave Out Mix” as the audio recording device.

no

EXAMPLE:

Now it’s time to find some audio tracks to rip.

A good friend of mine is the lead-singer for a band called The Wagon here in San Diego and has been kind enough to allow me to use his band’s music on MySpace for this tutorial.

The image below is of the band’s page. Notice how the top two songs are available for download and the bottom two are not. We’re going to rip the second song from the top titled “End of Summer,” a personal favorite of mine not to mention timely with Summer drawing to a close.

yort

Now with Audacity and the MySpace page open, click the “record button” on Audacity as shown below and then quickly press the “play button” on the End of Summer track. The track should begin to play and thereby be displayed as eloquent peaks and valleys of music in the Audacity track window.

short
word

When the song is finished playing press the “stop button” on Audacity. This will of course stop the recording and allow us to go back and edit the song.

rtu

The reason we need to edit the song is because there will be periods of silence in both the beginning and end of our recording. This silence is the delay in reaction time it took for us to both start and stop the process.

Using the scrollbar on the bottom of the track window, scroll back to the beginning of the recording as pictured below.

dgfd

Using the mouse place your cursor as close to the beginning of the song as possible, then click and drag it all the way to the left and release. We have just selected the silence in the front of the track, which we will now discard by pressing the “delete button” on your keyboard.

rewre

Now we need to do the same thing for the end of the recording. To do so simply scroll to the end of the track and then select and delete the silence as you did with the beginning of the track. It’s that easy.

From the “File” tab select “Export as MP3″ as shown below.

jhh

It will then prompt you to select a name to save it as, which in this case will be “End of Summer.”

yuytuytu

After clicking on the “Save” tab, it will then ask you to “locate the LAME MP3 encoder” we just installed.

jhgjhjghjghj

Hopefully you remember where we just put it but, just in case I’ll show you where to go.

tuuuuu
uutttt
fhghgff

Once this is done it’ll begin to encode the track and turn it into an MP3, the music file type necessary to play on your iPod or whatever media player of choice.

fgghhhhhh

And with this ladies and gentleman the track is ready to go.

mmiii

Admittedly, configuring the Audacity program to perform as necessary initially takes a little while, but once this is done future recordings or “ripping” of audio files will be a breeze.

musicjacker is a really good program for downloading music from MySpace. http://musicjacker.com

I use http://www.flvtomp3.org and http://www.youtube-mp3-converter.org and they both work fine for me. Best thing I like is, there is no registration required so I don't have to give anyone my information on the internet.

I can share several tools I am using to get music: 1) virtual audio streaming, a recording tool to record "what u hear". 2) listen to youtube, listen to youtube mp3 online... 3) free youtube to mp3 converter, as its name says, a free youtube to mp3 converter soft. I uses these tools for a several months and they are perfect.

That's not ripping music from sites. That's recording a shitty quality song from the internet. Hello mono sound.

this is cool stuff , always wanted to leech stuff off myspace to hard disk.

I don't know much about myspace. Aren't they are dead anyway? I use http://www.convert-youtube-to-mp3.com to rip music from youtube.

area ?? haha funny man.. You crack me up. Well i agree with you, but who cares what others do, get a life and more on. HAHA HAHA HAHAH roll over HAHAH

Musicjacker worked for meeee <3 <3 :)

The Zilla works brilliant in Explorer! not in Firefox for me....

anyone heard of a program called musicjacker? i've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it works brilliantly.

I normally buy my music, so I am new to all of this. There is a now-defunct NYC trip-hop band named "Market" that I want to buy some music from. Their Myspace link is here: http://www.myspace.com/marketexposed. I am not trying to steal their music! With them being defunct for about a decade, there is hardly anything to steal!! Situations like this are why it would be nice to record streaming music and media. I have recently used http://www.vidtomp3.com/ for tracks with a url. That method does not work for Myspace: no direct url to reference. Neither does Free Music Zilla; the file just sits there "waiting to download" until the timeout counter runs down. I flat out asked the Myspace administrator where I could buy this music (reply pending). I mean, THEY got it from SOMEWHERE, right? Worst case, the vinyl is available here-- http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=101108&ev=rb. I can make my own MP3s if a have to. Sorry to be so long-winded. If someone out there has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

is spawny still around his method was the best but the site has been suspended for now, i would happily help pay for the upkeep cost of that site... Spawny you around?

I've tried this but couldn't get it to work. GrabThatFile.com did though (and a lot easier too)

You all suck ass, actually it's worse cos that could be consensual. Plus you get pants sound quality that way, get some class.

thanks a lot for stealing music that costs thousands and thousand of dollars to and hundreds of hours to create. obviously you have never talked to a musicians.

Ever heard of YouTube? People actually stream more music than they download for free. Musicians largely dont earn anything from YouTube either.

Here is a working Linux shell script to download MySpace music, for real geeks only! Tested in Ubuntu http://360percents.com/posts/linux-myspace-music-downloader/

To download video with myspace I use service takeyoutube.com

For real- You think I wanna keep recording and putting my tunes out there so people can rip them for free and leave me HAVING to pedal my way through the shitty night clubs and pubs to try and get paid?? Come on, the sound quality at a live venue is never as good. In my recordings I get the control, I put in the LOVE. And it shows. So show some love back.

"You think I wanna keep recording and putting my tunes out there" - yes,no one is forcing you. "...leave me HAVING to pedal my way through the shitty night clubs and pubs to try and get paid??" - 1.once again,no one is forcing you. 2.A real musician doesn't do it for the money,we do it because we need to get things out of our heads. "the sound quality at a live venue is never as good" - far from true...live is often better, unless the band sucks and manipulates that in the studio. And the most obvious thing to say to all of this,as someone already pointed out...the CDs is not what bands make their money from,dumbass...and how would a person be able to afford buying all the albums ever made? ...which is what one has to do in order to get to know what we like.If an artist has managed to create an album I love,I of course buy it after downloading it,but there's very few bands I can trust to always create music I'll love. Since I am by my computer 24/7 I want all my albums on my computer...why would I buy a stereo, when I have winamp in front of me? And the quality you get when streaming a song is simply not good enough. And the lame excuse "you're not a musician,so you don't get it" is simply retarded...someone dumb enough to say that,is not smart enough to be a musician. 1st of all,I am a vocalist/guitarplayer/songwriter and have been for about 15 years and I say "to NOT download is stupid". 2nd,the simplicity of this should be easy enough to understand no matter who you are...I know I would have seen clearly about this even at 5 years of age,so please shoot yourself if you can't create art without getting paid to do so,you cunt.

Why don't you buy it so bands can keep recording IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

musicjacker for myspace is brilliant! it not only allows you to download any song off a bands playlist but allows you to download albums too! even gets the id3 tags. http://musicjacker.com

musicjacker doesn't work anymore D: it's always on "idle"

They've released an update to fix this. It even downloads album art now!

try this software which can remove drm from iTunes music, Zune Marketplace music, Napster, Rhapsody, Music Giants, Bearshek, M4P/AAC/WMA,

the only method i could get working was the audacity method. couldnt work on my laptop because my video card didn't support the wave capture feature. worked fine on my desktop though. for anyone that has the sound quality record crappy, don't use stereo mix. use wave. hope that helps everyone

with the new myspace player Firefox program no longer works

Stereo mix work good for.mee using a a old dell latiude d600 whats the diference whit wave??

music jacker is shite... u might as well download firefoxe's ( if ur a firefox user) addons which download songs from myspace in flv format and then convert them into mp3... he difference s that music jacker charges for this.. the addon (of firefox) is free

doesn't work, audacity has greyed out box so i can;t select the recording input and free music zilla does fuck all

this shit aint help nothing

The music files are stored in the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder as ...htm's with cache names with an for example Internet Explorer icon, if You use IE. You have to open up for hidden files to see, what's in the 'Temporary Internet' folder I guess. You have to do that under folders/options for folders. When You listen to a music number fx. in Myspace You can figure out, which htm-icon the song has, if You upload 'Temporary Internet Files' folder regulary at the same time as playing the music. When You have choosen the htm-icon, You think the music number is stored as, You right click on it and go to options. There You see, what the music number is called in cache or htm.name (and the kind of url for it) and maybe Orbit or some other new program can convert that htm/url name to music/mp3's. Don't know which program and wont use it myself, because it's not legal... But I'm making music myself and thought it could be nice to grab my own songs, if the pc strikes and You have to reinstall Windows... Hopefully not.. LOL Guess more easy to store them on external USB drives.. Hmmm...

There are dozens of programs to "rip" off the soundcard like the Audacity process described above (you could play a DVD and take the sound off that if you wanted to...) As for actual downloading: Until recently, I was just using Firefox with the DownloadHelper plugin (http://www.downloadhelper.net/ - very nice) but that has also stopped picking up Myspace streams :( Also the mp3 no longer shows up in IE's "Temporary Internet Files" folder which it used to. So my conclusion is Myspace must've done something funny.

musicjacker for MySpace still works - http://musicjacker.com

This method sucks, it ain't ripping, it's recording

Thats quite complicated for one little mp3 file.....

how do u get music from yur computer to yur ipod nano

This works like a charm! Thanks a lot! And about the «Wave Out Mix» I couldn't select it either but it works when I go to: > edit > preferences > Audio I/O tab > Recording, device and then choose «Wave Out Mix» Worked for me :)

hi. I downloaded the musiczilla program and I'm trying to download this song from myspace. everything works great except I don't know how to select just one song cause it downloads the whole webpage to my computer, can you please help me and instruct me how to select just this one song? tnx

free music zilla still works for you on myspace?! it stopped working for me almost a year ago! the only program that works for me now is musicjacker.

I've been using this program and it works great, even gets the ID3 tags: www.musicjacker.com

ok so my audacity doesn't have a wave out mix option, does that matter?

i agree with slimbeam, you dont realise the time, money, and effort people take to make a record. What happens when everyone stops paying for music and artists simply cant afford to record music any more?

You'd have sites like SoundClick, ArtistServer and several others offering music for free. Alternatively, there'd be alternative business models like ads with music. It's not the end of the world even if every consumer of music stops paying for music financially. Before you say I don't know what I'm talking about in terms of music production, I've technically recorded 5 albums now and am working on a 6th.
