How to Rip Music From MySpace

Don’t want to hassle? SuperMedia has a
product available for $47 that works.

A quick step guide that will show you how to rip audio from MySpace and any other site that allows you to stream music on your PC.

There are many audio files available for playback on the venerable MySpace site yet, very few are available as downloads. There’s a number of ways to bypass this problem and I will cover two of best the methods here for you to use, the first being the easiest.

A. FreeMusicZilla
B. Audacity

FreeMusicZilla

1. Download and install FreeMusicZilla.

2. Open FreeMusicZilla, visit the desired MySpace page, and play the song you want to download. Whatever music track you select will then automatically be grabbed by FreeMusicZilla.

3. Select the grabbed music track and press the DOWNLOAD button. Your download should then begin. Make sure you begin downloading the track before the “Leech Timeout” counter runs out otherwise you’ll have to refresh the page.

EXAMPLE:

In the picture below I used the MySpace page of my buddy DJ Destructo Bunny. He’s a local up and coming hip-hop artist and I urge you to show some support if you like what you hear by either buying a track or two or by trying to check out one of his upcoming shows.

NOTE: FreeMusicZilla places your downloads in the location “C:downloads” by default.

Audacity

1. Download and install Audacity.

yes

2. Now we need to install a LAME MP3 encoding driver so you can save tracks in the .mp3 format.

First download the driver, which you can do here. It’s in ZIP file format, so for those of you who are unfamiliar with what ZIP files are, there’s a guide here at Zeropaid you can take a look at.

Now drag and drop the driver in the location shown below, “C:WINDOWSsystem.”

3. Select “Wave Out Mix” as the audio recording device.

no

EXAMPLE:

Now it’s time to find some audio tracks to rip.

A good friend of mine is the lead-singer for a band called The Wagon here in San Diego and has been kind enough to allow me to use his band’s music on MySpace for this tutorial.

The image below is of the band’s page. Notice how the top two songs are available for download and the bottom two are not. We’re going to rip the second song from the top titled “End of Summer,” a personal favorite of mine not to mention timely with Summer drawing to a close.

yort

Now with Audacity and the MySpace page open, click the “record button” on Audacity as shown below and then quickly press the “play button” on the End of Summer track. The track should begin to play and thereby be displayed as eloquent peaks and valleys of music in the Audacity track window.

short
word

When the song is finished playing press the “stop button” on Audacity. This will of course stop the recording and allow us to go back and edit the song.

rtu

The reason we need to edit the song is because there will be periods of silence in both the beginning and end of our recording. This silence is the delay in reaction time it took for us to both start and stop the process.

Using the scrollbar on the bottom of the track window, scroll back to the beginning of the recording as pictured below.

dgfd

Using the mouse place your cursor as close to the beginning of the song as possible, then click and drag it all the way to the left and release. We have just selected the silence in the front of the track, which we will now discard by pressing the “delete button” on your keyboard.

rewre

Now we need to do the same thing for the end of the recording. To do so simply scroll to the end of the track and then select and delete the silence as you did with the beginning of the track. It’s that easy.

From the “File” tab select “Export as MP3″ as shown below.

jhh

It will then prompt you to select a name to save it as, which in this case will be “End of Summer.”

yuytuytu

After clicking on the “Save” tab, it will then ask you to “locate the LAME MP3 encoder” we just installed.

jhgjhjghjghj

Hopefully you remember where we just put it but, just in case I’ll show you where to go.

tuuuuu
uutttt
fhghgff

Once this is done it’ll begin to encode the track and turn it into an MP3, the music file type necessary to play on your iPod or whatever media player of choice.

fgghhhhhh

And with this ladies and gentleman the track is ready to go.

Admittedly, configuring the Audacity program to perform as necessary initially takes a little while, but once this is done future recordings or “ripping” of audio files will be a breeze.

      • Anon

        fail.

  2. Jorge

Everyone Digg this this is a good guide and more people need to know about it.

  3. BDSKATE

That’s sweet. Im still waitin for my tutorial though. Oh yeah this is off topic but would anyone know where to find the Godfather PSP video game torrent? Im dying to get it!

  4. meyou123

@BDSKATE…You can’t make requests for illegal software on ZP!

  5. phxbigdog

Very Cool! This is just what I’ve been looking for :)

  6. BDSKATE

Oh sorry (My friend wanted me to tell him where to find it)

  7. davetheman

Why would you do that? The quality is sucky.

  8. soulxtc

@davetheman…….how else can u get a track that you couldnt get otherwise?

  9. Peter Stroker

Very misleading title. This is not about ripping at all but rather just recording what’s playing on your computer. I’ve used this method as a last resort since the beginning using SoundForge. Very disappointed that I still can’t rip the exact file from YouTube and MySpace.
One note to those using this method: if computer sounds are enabled (ie: mouse clicks etc.) those will also be recorded. Disable computer sounds first through the Control Panel while recording.
    Soulxtc I think a ti
tle change of this guide would be appropriate. Your efforts are appreciated though.

    Help!?

I don’t have the “wav out mix” as an option. I’ve got microphone phone line line in CD/Video In Aux/Line in 2 Stereo mix and mono mix…But no wav out mix. Do I need to download that from somewhere? If so could someone please tell me where?

  11. mrshizzle2002

Faeriel what you need to do is select stereo mix.

The information was very very helpful

  12. jls21th

    Help!? Me too please…

Can´t click on the drop down menu at all It´s all grey! So i really can´t choose the “Wave Out Mix” or any other applications. Have checked if i have the right version of the program and it looks that i have. (1.2.4b) have tried the most recent ones too but no success..

Do i need some sort of plug-in or anything to make it “accessible*? (the drop down menu)

  13. soiuruyw

Whether “wave out mix” is available or something like it depends on your soundcard and driver.

Secondly recording an MP3 (or other compressed audio) over the internet and recording it gets you MP3 quality even though you record to a wave file. Re-encoding to MP3 makes the quality even worse.

NOT the same as downloading the file.

  14. Shackles

Brilliant my quality only went down a bit. I couldnt find the plug-in so I had to use the stereo mix. None-the-less it came out awesome sounding almost like the original really really close to it. This would be the only time I’d resort to something like this. These band ‘Everlasting Lie’ that I got the song from are Japanese street bands and its almost impossible to get their music yet they’re so talented. Thanks a lot for helping to keep piracy moving and to get a persons favorite rare song.

  15. Carrie

you don’t need to use audicity. i just drag the audio file from free music zilla to my music folder. then i can drag it into itunes

  16. isaac

my music zilla wont grab the track =/
    does anyone know why??

  17. JD

i always wondered when this info would show up somewhere. hopefully more people will catch on now.

  18. Laurin

Ok, so I downloaded Music Zilla. I open the program but when I go to a myspace page, the music won’t play at all and I cant download it. If I close music Zilla, then the music starts playing… Whats up??

  19. kevin

I did the audacity thing. Yesterday it worked fine. Today i tried to record a new song, but now it only records silence. I am 100% sure everything is how it’s supposed to be and i’m 100% sure it worked yesterday. I use vista. Any help? :s

  20. Erika

None of these work for me.

  21. jessie

it won’t let me select for the wave out mix thingie like nothing shows for that part

  22. Lauren

FreeMusicZilla works for me for Imeem.

  23. DEX

The provided link worked great! Thank YOU!

  24. K1NG

None of this works. I tried the sites too and nothing works. Wtf??

  25. Damian

I am using a Mac can anyone help me get music off of myspace and onto my computer or iTunes

  26. johnny

Seriously guys this site works perfectly, it’s amazing:

    file2hd.com

    Use it.

  27. theNes

Free Music Zilla doesn’t work anymore for myspace or if you’re using an updated web browser.

  28. suz

    FYI:
If you have been using File2HD&live in the states, you can no longer rip songs from Myspace through that site. Apparently they [Myspace] have up-ed their security on music. So if you have a USA IP Address, it won’t allow you to dl. This began this month, June.

You’ll notice it’ll say: Notes (June 2009): This will not work if you are in USA!!!

    http://blog.aniscartujo.com/index.php/2009/06/07/ms-player-changes/

  29. zook

Dont try File2HD.com It is useless since Myspace updated the players.

  30. Dorian

i downloaded FreeMusicZilla when i would play the song on myspace, it did not show up in the FreeMusicZilla window. So basically FreeMusicZilla did not grab any song that i chose.

    I then tried the Audacity
I went through everything and then when it made me to chose the Wave Out Mix turns out that is not an option.

Someone please help ive been depending on File2hd.com
    now im STUCK

  31. Daniel

is there anything similar to this for mac?

  32. meaghan

    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP
im trying to download tracks and cuz of “shitspace’s” new music thing i cant use file2hd, obv
but i really need some music of it
the CD’s arent made anymore and i cant even find the on ebay!!!
    help!!!!!

  33. Mark

Mac users try Wiretap Pro. It is so easy to rip stuff off Myspace..

  34. Sam

I know there are a lot of options to do this, but don’t get hung up on Audacity if you have another method to get this done. I’m getting really tired of having to record in Audacity for the entire length of the song.
and I found this Rip music from MySpace
