Clear Channel Unveils Mobile-Based Distribution Initiative

Clear Channel Radio has now inaugurated a mobile-based radio distribution program, starting with New York-based WHTZ-FM, or Z100. As part of a relationship with Cingular Wireless, Clear Channel will deliver live Z100 broadcasts, and about one-hundred additional stations will join the fold over the next twelve months. “By connecting listeners to their favorite radio stations via cell phone, and adding interactive features, Clear Channel Radio has found an additional platform to deliver on-demand entertainment to, and drive listening among its active, on-the-go audiences across the country,” explained Jeff Littlejohn, executive vice president of Distribution Development at Clear Channel Radio.

Cingular subscribers can now grab the Z100 broadcasts for a premium rate of about $4 a month. That includes live streams, as well as podcast interviews and the ability to make station requests via text message. Other extras include wallpapers, real-time traffic reports, and fashion tips from DKNY Jeans. The Z100 rollout offers a template for future
