The concept of giving away free, ad-supported music now has considerable buzz, thanks largely to heavy media coverage surrounding SpiralFrog. But others are also planning entrances. Just recently, independent digital music distributor The Orchard has recently licensed Qtrax, an ad-supported P2P. Qtrax, owned by Brilliant Technologies Corporation, has recently finalized negotiations with EMI Music Publishing, EMI Music, ASCAP, and TVT Records. “Qtrax has developed an innovative P2P music service combining the power of viral marketing with an ad-supported revenue model that fairly compensates rights owners,” said Greg Scholl, chief executive of The Orchard.
Like SpiralFrog, Qtrax is not yet live, though both models will soon face the wilds of the digital marketplace. While everyone wants free music, it remains unclear if consumers will tolerate accompanying restrictions and ad-viewing requirements. In the case of Qtrax, downloads are actually limited-use, and will be issued in the obscure .mpq format. More flexible downloads require an extra payment.

So there will be a utility to crack and remove ads easily but anyways it sounds promising.
