Games based on movies are common, but only recently have interactive entertainment companies turned to TV shows for their inspiration. Mobile game publisher Gameloft, one of the leaders in this genre, is set to confirm Monday an exclusive multiyear agreement with Touchstone Television to develop, publish and distribute mobile games based on ABC’s hit series “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives.”
The first games from the pact will be released in January.
“The success of both ‘Lost’ and ‘Desperate Housewives’ has been unparalleled,” ABC Entertainment and Touchstone TV senior vice president business development Bruce Gersh said. “Both shows have a huge following with deeply loyal fans, and we are confident that Gameloft, with their creative and talented pool of producers, will exceed those expectations and develop a game that captures the defining essence of each show.”
“Lost” and “Housewives” are the latest TV shows that Gameloft has licensed. The publisher recently released its first game based on Fox’s “The O.C.” That game, which features the likenesses of cast members Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson, blends minigames with social interactions in such Newport Beach, Calif., locations from the show as the pool house and the student lounge. New story events are generated every time a player starts a game.
