RIAA Wants to Depose Dead Defendant’s Children; But Will Allow them 60 Days to “Grieve”

Just when we think we’ve heard it all….

In Michigan, in Warner Bros. v. Scantlebury, after learning that the defendant had passed away, the RIAA made a motion to stay the case for 60 days in order to allow the family time to “grieve”, after which time they want to start taking depositions of the late Mr. Scantlebury’s children:

Motion for 60-Day Stay and Extension of "Deadlines"

Hey…the US and Israel justify innocent deaths….who’s to say the terrorists weren’t targeting people in the WTC? Who’s to say who is innocent and who isn’t innocent?

Sure…there definately was mostly innocent people in the WTC but who’s to say that there wasn’t these types of people hiding behind all the innocent people? If the US and Israel can justify innocents’ deaths then so can the terrorists.

I’m not trying to justify innocents’ deaths…but all is fair in love and war. If we can do it then they can do it and vice versa.

BUT I CAN GUARANTEE you that the US is guilty of more innocent deaths than the terrorists PERIOD!

They want depositions to see if any others may have used his account to download songs. So far they have nothing if they dont submit depositions.

Lets not equate what terrorists do with this! Terrorists (the real ones) kill innocent people. So are you saying they have a right to kill innocent people by running planes into buildings?

That’s exactly what terrorist are…people who are fed up of the bullshit these types of people perpetrate: Omnipotent government sponsored gestapos who cannot be stopped thru legal or war-type methods.

Give the adresses of the riaa and mpaa members in charge as well as their lawyers adresses to a group of terrorists and let them deal with them.

This would be like my dad killing someone then he dies not too long after and then I get charged for the murder he committed because he’s dead. It’s ridiculous.

the point to the lawsuits is income! After losing money on crappy cd releases…. once you die the remaining immediate family members legally assume your debt. Maybe the RIAA thinks this gives them ground to stand on.

I think this whole thing will be thrown right out of court because there is no way in HELL they can legally hold his children responsible when they had nothing to do with it!

I really hope the children come back and COUNTERSUE the RIAA because they would have a very good case for doing so.

Im not sure what Bush and the RIAA have in common……they’ve been pursuing these cases forever and copyright laws won’t change no matter who is president. Its not like a new PRES is going to rewrite them. He’ll have bigger fish to fry than P2P.

I would like to know how the FAMILY of this guy can be found liable though. Via proxy by marriage?

I don’t get it. I thought the purpose of these lawsuits was to make a point to filesharers. The guy is dead. He’s not going to get the point anymore no matter how hard they try. So they sue the grieving family. Are they now saying filesharing is genetic or something?

What some ambulance-chasing turd munchers won’t do for 3 grand eh?
