The Snarf-It DIY Tool (Copyright Holders Only)

A couple of days ago we received this email from Microsoft asking us to remove about 200 torrents from the site that were “offending” their ideas of copyright. This site is run by people who have day time jobs, we don’t make anywhere near the exhorbitant amounts of money made by other bittorrent site admins so we have to have normal day jobs to survive. This means we do not have the time it would take to go through 400,000 sql entries to find and remove the torrents that other companies would like us to remove.

In the past we have usually taken down torrents on request within 24hrs but it just isnt possible now as we don’t have the time so when a request such as this one from Microsoft lands on our doorstep we need to rethink our approach to copyright, that is what we have done.

From this day (31/7/06) Snarf-It will no longer be replying to requests to remove torrents from it’s site, instead copyright holders will have the ability to delete their torrents from Snarf-It using the DIY (Delete It Yourself) tool, for more information about the DIY tool please visit our wiki.

No more than 20 torrents per day can be deleted by a corporate entity, this is to avoid undue stress on the server and is a limit that is in effect for our torrent shopping basket as well (no more than 20 torrents in the shopping basket). Any abuse of the tool or extended pressure brought to bear to be allowed greater access will result in forfeit of access for the relevant entity.
