Purdue University senior Daniel Clemans has downloaded more than 600 songs to his iPod.
He admits that only a fraction of those were obtained legally. Most students who download music or movie files from the Internet or among friends “aren’t even thinking about doing it illegally,” he said.
“They’re just thinking about getting free music.”
But circumstances are aligning that could force students to think before they pirate, both at the federal and university levels.
