No the search engine is not strictly for "pay only" users because I was just there today and I have not donated anything there and the search is still there for me. Anyways I like the new colourful design of E and hope for new changes and improvments as long as the general overall use of it stays the same I'm happy. As for it going to a "pay site" if you look on the main page it says quite clearly that E will always be free the cost only goes to NEW users UNTIL the new owners are able to get enough to upgrade the servers and improvement costs.
