Napster today layed off 10% of its staff and

target=_blank>announced that its planned Q1 2002 launch now wont take place
till it has settled the disputes with all or most of the Big Five music
labels which could be a long time away. It is back in court today with the
record companies having to prove ownership of their music.
Meanwhile
Scour (Big file swapping service in Napster’s hayday) has
href="http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t269-s2105318,00.html"
target=_blank>signed a deal with Sony to distribute its content through Scour
becoming the first time a major record label has licensed its content to a
file-sharing company. So, the minority of people out there that are
interested in paying for a legitamite p2p service may find Scour launching
before Napster.
