I find it amusing that la… err, *laymen* who don’t mind e.g. the spyware or other suspicious files installed by Kazaa, or have already learned to use AdAware, still freak out when they hear about Audiogalaxy, the best and largest MP3 library in the world (23.000.000 users), which also happens to install some spyware with its official client. I think it’s worth time to set some facts straight:
- Audiogalaxy’s official client installs spyware that is commonly known and can be removed with AdAware. Unlike Kazaa etc., AG does NOT require the spyware’s presence to work. Once you install AG and remove the spyware, you can enjoy the Galaxy with no need for any additional tricks.
- The VX2 trojan is NOT installed by AG. It was installed but quickly removed when its true nature was discovered. The same happened shortly ago with Grokster, remember?
- You don’t even HAVE to install the official AG client. At least 7 extended and spyware-neutered clients are freely available online. The most popular one (with a user database manager, speed monitoring, and much more) is here: http://home.hetnet.nl/~cpjraats/agsatellite.html – or here: http://melchiot.orakel.ods.org/~ruurd/ag.html. Other ones – here: http://mp3-under.net/user-contrib.html
So if you have any good (preferably rare, that’s what AG is famous for
MP3s, come on – 23 million users are not wrong. A fair word of warning for any greedy, non-sharing leechers: AG is anti-leech, and your performance will be severely cut down by Audiogalaxy if you don’t share or pretend to share… so if you want to come to leech, don’t.
