Mobile broadband is making watching television anytime, anywhere, much more of a reality, and one Israeli company is committed to that vision of TV all the time.
“Our motto is ‘enabling TV everywhere,’” the chief executive officer and president of Siano Mobile Silicon, Alon Ironi, told United Press International. Siano makes chips with receivers for digital TV signals. In cell phones, the receivers are built-in, and for PDAs and laptops, the receiver plugs into a USB port and features an antenna about 3 inches long.
“If you’re stuck in a traffic jam, or waiting for a dentist appointment, you can watch TV. It’s a time-filler,” Ironi said.
“Let’s face it: you … are never going to sit back with a bowl of popcorn and watch a movie on a cell phone,” he said. Instead, the programming is regular but short TV fare, like news, sports and sitcoms.
