A Long Island politician has dropped a federal lawsuit that had claimed the search engine company Google Inc. profits from child pornography.
Jeffrey Toback, a member of the Nassau County Legislature from Oceanside, filed suit in May claiming Google had “paid links” to Web sites containing child pornography.
Toback said he dropped the lawsuit because “Google has offered to sit down and discuss the issues. They didn’t want to do that while litigation was pending, so we’re taking them up on their offer.”
He said he hoped to arrange a meeting with Google officials “at their earliest convenience”

I hope that this is just paid links and not all li nks. Not that I’m in favor of li nks to kiddie porn but an indexing site like Google is supposed to index the WHOLE interenet and not to pass judgement on websites. When I go to Google or Lycos I expect to find li nks to websites. Once I get to those websites I am the one who judges them. If I want a nanny to protect my morals I’ll hire one!
intersting point. As nasty as kidde porn is obviously once we start placing moral judgements on search results we end up with a system like China where all search results are scrutinized for public “suitability.” Its a slippery slope. I too hope its merely PAID ads and not search results. Good point.
