ZP: So MusicCity’s long awaited “Preview Edition” is essentially your Gnucleus software with a Morpheus skin. Did MusicCity contact you at all regarding their plans?
JM: Nope, but LimeWire hinted me about it a couple days before though.
ZP: How does it feel to have the arguably most popular p2p client fall back on your creation?
JM: I feel that gnucleus is a very powerful gnutella engine and that Morpheus using it as its base for integrating with gnutella was a good choice.
ZP: Under the GPL, is what they did legal? Moral? What requirements would they have to meet to legally use your code?
JM: Yes, under GPL what they did was legal, to stay legal they must keep their sources open and give credit to my developers. Moral? It seems that internet companies these days are starting to really test their users nerves with ads, spyware, etc.. there’s a breaking point and it will probably happen soon.
ZP: What does the future hold for Gnucleus? Any collaborations with MusicCity or any of their counterparts?
JM: I’ve released some small upgrades, current version of Gnucleus is 1.6.3, Morpheus still runs on 1.6.0 code though. I hope they can keep up with our development and be useful to a degree where they do some development on their own.
ZP: Any shoutouts?
JM: My users, developers and supporters of this project.
