Companies Sue Sweden Over Pirate Bay Server Confiscation

posted by soulxtc in file sharing // 938 days 12 hours 32 minutes ago
The recent Pirate Bay Raid apparently left more than just the "Pirates" without their servers. 10 other companies unrelated to Pirate Bay had their servers confiscates in the same raid and are now demanding compensation from the Swedish authorities.

Seeking between 10,000 and 200,000 kronor($1359 and $27,187 USD) each, the companies all had their servers hosted by PRQ, the same data center that hosted the servers of Pirate Bay.

Why Swedish authorities confiscated all the servers rather than simply those related to Pirate Bay is unclear however, as prosecutor Hakan Roswell and police spokespeople all refusing to say why such an action took place.

PRQ was able to get temporary servers up and running following the raid and noted that "We wish to express our deepest gratitude to our friends, colleagues and supporters who have lent us hardware to assist in getting everything functional again." But, that still doesn't solve the problem of lost, or inaccessible data, while their servers languish in a Swedish "jail."
