Timed to coincide with the rollout of the first Samsung Blue-ray DVD players and Sony Blu-ray compatible desktop PCs, Sony plans to release its first seven movie titles in the next-generation HD format on June 20th.
The titles to be released include: 50 First Dates, The Fifth Element, Hitch, xXx, The Terminator, Underworld: Evolution, and House Of Flying Daggers.
Sony faces tough competition from Toshiba’s HD-DVD format on many fronts. The main aspect being that HD-DVD titles have been rolling out since May 2nd of this year, of which will soon number 23 in total by June 20th.
Still somewhat reeling from their famous Betamax fiasco in the 1980s, the stakes for winning the battle over the next-generation format are huge.

Most people know about the new formats but also most people just don't care about them. Consumers are happy with DVD's and alot of people have huge collections and are not ready to switch to something that the average person can't tell the difference in. These companies simply wish to push more exspensive hardware in our faces because everyone and their mother already has a DVD player. DVD's will reign another ten years at least in the movie market. They may even become cheaper because of this new format. I think both are going to flop on release. In the PC market one will gain ground because people are always looking for more space storage. This is a farce
