What ever happened to an artist simply being happy with creating and not caring about how much money is to be made. I know what some of you will say the US is a capitalistic country and there is nothing wrong with making money blah blah blah. But seriously why cant music be about something other then money?

Y’know maybe I’m breaking away from the pack on this one but doesn’t a band have a right to be pissed off if its new work leaks before they want it to? I wrote about Pearl Jam putting their new single out as a free download before the album release. I support it if/when a band wants to do it. But music is a way of life for these guys. Shouldn’t they be afforded the right to decide when their music is first heard? If I’d spent a long time working on a new album only to have poor quality leaks become people’s first impression I’d be pretty pissed too.

The “woe is me” millionaire thing doesn’t really work for me. I’m sure the Peppers will have a nice little kitty to play with to warrent the small percentage of “geniune fans” who download the album rather then purchase it. And I note that if your “geniune fans” don’t buy your album obviously you aren’t giving your fans what they want are you?

I totally agree with jaycross on this. If folks choose to make their living through music then fine I’m all for that let them profit from their hard work. It doesn’t matter if you “personally” feel the music is crap or if the musicians are millionaires. They became millionaires from hard work. No one sat up one day and said “Hey we are going to give you a boatload of loot for doing nothing”. I love P2P but some of you guys kill me with this everything should be free shit.

I totally dis-agree with jaycross on this. My first impression on the bands album has nothing to do with a poor quality leak (expecially the chili peppers who had some descent albums in the past most of their stuff sounds the same)…Hell if I wanted to I could record the entire album played on Sirius Satelite with the good quality and rip it from there…P2P is just an easier source and I could care less about there feelings…No appologies here…
