Morpheus Alternatives

With pressing legal issues down the road, and their recent server malfunctions, many Morpheus users may be at a loss in terms of filesharing. I figure its time to shortly recap and reevaluate other programs that may be useful while Morpheus’ future remains in question.

Lets start with EDonkey 2000, which has recently been grabbing popularity lately.
Pros – File hashing resulting in safer downloading, swarming capability resulting in fast downloads, no central server, and port configuration for firewalled users.

Cons – Connecting can confuse newbies, interface is also nothing to rave about, eats system resources.
Check out ZP’s review of EDonkey Here. Download Edonkey Here.

Next on the hit list is WinMX Beta 3.0 featuring many new exiting features.

Pros – Completely decentralized network, open-nap connections, swarmed downloading(only to 3.0 users), chat rooms, hotlist, spyware/adware/banner free, fast east connection, firewall port configuration

Cons – Poor interface, files limited due to Beta testing, small bugs to be corrected, and did I mention poor interface. Read ZP’s review of WinMX Ver. 2.6. Or grab the Beta.

Now how about our old friend BearShare 2.5 Beta 5 as we see them implementing more exiting features quickly.
Pros – Swarming, file hashing, very fast, family filter, rapid development.

Cons – interface can be hard to understand, no ultrapeers yet thus the connections are slow, still Beta so buggy, uses many system resources.
Read ZP’s review of BearShare 2.4. Or download there Beta.

No how about Blubster, a wildly popular client.

Pros – Fast, completely decentralized, spyware free, swarmed downloading, small download.
Cons – Connection problems for firewalled users, Mp3’s only.
Check our Zp’s Review. Or grab Blubster.

We’ve seen other popular clients begin to fade in popularity, like AudioGalaxy because of its centralized server and legal problems, Imesh because of spyware and connection issues. And there are still other smaller networks straggling around with promising features, like Filetopia with great security, the Qube with its tight interface and decentralized network, and Songspy for its great speed. Post feedback, this should be interesting. Remember to keep coming back to the most popular file sharing site on the net, Zeropaid.com
