This has not been confirmed as real news yet. It was picked up originally from some small web site that may not know what they are talking about. So far nothing as been posted by the RIAA about this at all.

oh really? I’ve alway relied on Slyck for true quality news. But I did find it odd myself that the RIAA only sued 235 instead over their typical 700 or so.

it costs the riaa more money is lawyer fee’s than they get out of average american citizen they are suing and settling with. doesnt make any sense well when you have that much money and power who needs sense!

It definately doesnt cost more in lawyer fee’s they are making millions off the people they sue. Every group of lawsuits brings in a few million.

    Will they ever learn?

  6. riaasuckz

i’ve never read any article where the riaa is charging less than $2000 for a settlement fine and I have seen reports as high as $7000 so it really does vary I think. But I really doubt they are paying more in lawyer fees and court costs.

“Will they ever learn?” Not as long as they are raking in millions of dollars without doing anything except harvesting IP addresses sharing NSYNC. At this point it doesn’t have any shock effect it’s just to make money period.

Still no word from the RIAA. As some of the posters pointed out at Slyck this story seems to be bullpoop. Its not the first time Slyck has made a mistake seems to be happening more lately.

What would happen if all those who were threatened said “I’m not paying jail me if you want”. Would they jail everyone?

  10. riaasuckz

actually i think the story may be legit. mp3.com is owned by the RIAA now for those who didn’t already know and this article pretty much backs up the 235-sued this month story…. http://www.mp3.com/news/stories/4266.html

I seriously doubt the RIAA is making tons of money off the people being sued. Keep in mind that with a civil case all the RIAA gets is a judgment. The judgment says you have to pay the RIAA money. Ok great but now how do they get it out of you. Even after losing a case you can refuse to pay. At that point they can go back to court to do one of several things. The court can seize property for auction seize money from a bank account or garnish wages. It is considered a debt by the government and you cannot be jailed for this kind of debt as far as I know. So after a court case that costs them a ton of money and time they still may get nothing. Think about it.
