Sen. Feinstein for RIAA & MPAA in 2006, Not Consumers

Senator Diane Feinstein (D), California, will be running for re-election in the fall of this year. Her win should be considered a threat to P2P users, as well as anyone wishing to protect privacy rights and online first ammendment rights.

The Democratic Senator commented on P2P Technology after the Hollywood victory in MGM vs. Grokster supreme court decision last July, “The peer to peer networks are increasing,” Feinstein said, who includes Hollywood and its movie studios in her constituency. “To me, that’s a signal that we should enact a strong law to protect our copyright industry.”

She then went on to threaten P2P technology itself, “We have a bright young public who sees nothing wrong with downloading…it’s going to destroy the copyright industry, it seems to me,” she said, adding that a peer-to-peer network “is either going to be legal, or it isn’t going to exist.”

Remarks like these from a Senator who is payed by tax-payer money, and for the industries over the people, should be fired from their positions immediately. If Feinstein wins re-election, it will only mean 6 more years with just one more Senator that cares more about her campaign contributions than the people she is campaigning to represent.

It has been reported that many of Feinstein’s top campaign contributors have been the entertainment industry and companies themselves.

From 1997 to 2002 the TV/Film/Music Industry has been the 4th highest campaign contributors. Top individual contributors include Walt Disney, AOL Time Warner, and Vivendi Universal, while Walt Disney and AOL Time Warner are in the top seven.
Attempts to reach Senator Feinstein for comments were unsuccessful.

it seems to me diane you don’t know shit. oh btw thanks for holding up a stubborn centrist view on file sharing really helps out your failing party dumbass.

  2. Ne007

Yeh Dumbass diane…IT’S THE LAWS THAT MAKE US P2P STUPID STUPID STUPID!

“Remarks like these from a Senator who is payed by tax-payer money and for the industries over the people should be fired from their positions immediately.”

    Yes fire those remarks! ;)

(this sentence is all kinds of incoherent).

  4. CrashPeer44

    someone kill this bitch?

  5. IshareManyFilez

This is why i’m against giving political parties and candidates donations and money. Obviously she knows nothing of the matter besides what her donators are telling her. She is completely biased against filesharers merely because of donations which is utter bullshit! It makes me wonder if pro-filesharing advocates were donating or people from this website were the 4th largest contributer instead of the music and movie industries if she would be singing a different tune {or maybe downloading one}.

  6. origin

what a dumb broad. she is a democrat sadly….

    l8

  7. VAMPYRE BLADE

She is bought and paid for by her owners she doesnt represnt the people just the ones that give her big donations and kickbacks

  8. teto

She has made some positive committments to civil rights state infrastructure and educational funding but nothing really definite. Just sort of hand waving stuff that can’t exactly be construed as good or bad. And now I learn she has made definite statements against freedom in support of monopolistic copyright and demeaning the people who vote for her. But who else do you turn to? Who could you possibly vote for instead of Diane Feinstein?

Well this guy seems pretty good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Chretien

All the others are pretty much wackos. There’s Don “Burns with a Zeal for God” Grundman Jim “Kill all the Immigrants” Gilchrist and Dick “Not a Democrat Kill all the Immigrants Jesus loves Fetuses Let’s Build Lots More Houses” Mountjoy. Any other candidates I don’t know about? Add them to Wiki! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Senate_election_2006

people need to shake up the political landscape; stop voting democrat and republican. congress has about 36% support yet I willing to bet over 90% of these people get their seat back. im tired of americans complaining about shit yet doing the same thing. i can’t blame her i can only blame the dumbasses that are going to put her back in office.

“Remarks like these from a Senator who is payed by tax-payer money and for the industries over the people should be fired from their positions immediately.”

though i agree it just seems out of place to make a comment on her comment. news as shitty as somthing may be for a group of people needs to remain unbaised. the biased remarks should be held for the comment threads like this one.

  11. riaasuckz

true. but the source of the article is The Pirate Times. one would expect their writers to be biased i’d think.

  12. Andrew110

Don’t they have MORE IMPORTANT things to worry about? Like crime?

  13. riaasuckz

according to feinstein this is a real crime i guess.

  14. icebox

Any california senator who wants to stay elected will support the movie industry in whatever it wants. Everyone here I’m sure yells hooray when it’s defending them against the wing nuts angry about alleged obscenity but this is just the flip side of the coin. You think the republican opponent will be any better?

  15. Burd

Anyone who votes for or against a candidate based upon ONE issue is ONE idiot! That’s how we got GWB in the first place. All the Pro-Lifers voted him in. Now look what they’re stuck with. The question who is the alternative is a good one. Chances are any Republican is probably going to be much worse. Write her some letters. Let her know how you feel on this one issue. But also look at how she stands on other issues too. I disagree with my senator (Ted Kennedy) on the illegal immigrant issue but I agree with him on so much more. I’m hardly going to vote against him because of one issue. The same should be true with Feinstein.

  16. riaasuckz

Actually if you are referring to GWB getting ‘elected’ in 2000 we all know that is a scam. As for 2004 which I believe you are referring to since the major media said it was fucking ‘morality’ that he won by he didn’t really win… go read it for yourself –> http://whatreallyhappened.com/2004votefraud.html

  17. inoesomestuff

reading some of the comments here sometimes makes me wonder how many people are actually old enough to vote

  18. Burd

More importantly how many are old enough to vote but don’t? As for the election being rigged that’s a possibility. But I was assuming a fair election. A LOT of people who voted for Bush based upon one issue like Abortion or Stem-Cell Research (which is closely related) are now sorry that they voted for him because they got a lot more than just a supporter for their issue. They got careless spending a never-ending war and an unstopable flow of illegal aliens. (Not to mention those gas prices!) It’s really hard to find a Bush supporter now. The Republican club on the campus where I work has virtually disappeared.

  19. Jau_Peacecraft

I’m old enough so I know I can bitch about it. And stop *assuming* a fair election open your freakig eyes.

  20. riaasuckz

yes the GOP steals it all the time therefore the Dems have to not only win but really destroy the GOP in the election so that even w/ factoring in the Reps cheating Dems will still officially win.

  21. statusquo80

Election fraud is kinda off the topic however I think there is a very good chance the election was rigged. Before some of you write me off please keep in mind that the two largest providers of voting machines Diebold and election Election Systems & Software are both huge Republican supporters.

As far as what Feinstein said I could care less. In order to truly stop file sharing they would have to change a lot of how the internet itself works. File sharing is already pretty much illegal in the US so the next step after the RIAA trying to sue people is trying to change how the ISPs work to stop file sharing. I believe we are a long way from that. Or at least I hope we are.

  22. etabeta

Send the bitch where shere belongs; home.
Never vote for canditates that sell themselves to the highest bidder!

  23. zpman

This is why you must absolutely vote Republican –not Democrat!

  24. zachary1

Just when the Democrats with Bush sub 30% can kick their collective Repuke ass all over the fruited plain they let THIS TWAT open up her pie-hole! Why doesn’t Dean or Dennis Kucinich overpower these fake Democrats?
