The explosive idea of forcing Internet providers to record their customers’ online activities for future police access is gaining ground in state capitols and in Washington, D.C.
Top Bush administration officials have endorsed the concept, and some members of the U.S. Congress have said federal legislation is needed to aid law enforcement investigations into child pornography. A bill is already pending in the Colorado State Senate.
Mandatory data retention requirements worry privacy advocates because they permit police to obtain records of e-mail chatter, Web browsing or chat-room activity that normally would have been discarded after a few months. And some proposals would require providers to retain data that ordinarily never would have been kept at all.

The other problem is it will raise the cost of internet service either through taxes or through your service provider. Storing that much data doesnt come free.

good idea dude! if you are careful not to shop at republican leaning compainies you might be able to weaken the right wing. personally i dont believe any real freedom exists anymore. at least not any freedom that can make a difference and that includes freedom of religion because in this country that rule only applies to certain religions. sure we can protest and march all we want but the same type of people that have always been in charge continue to stay in charge.

Fuck the whole system bullshit. The worst tax is payroll tax(AKA social security) and medicare. The tax laws are written so the rich don’t have to pay it. It is supposed to take money from young people and give it to old people which is bullshit. However instead the money actually ends up in the general treasury where it can pay for more useless congressional pork and more lousy wars.
The whole system is setup to discourage useful work and give people a sense of entitlement. Industries attack all upstarts with patents copyright lawyers and all other dirty tricks. The whole system supports them. Meanwhile people are taught they are enti tled to shit. The poor are supposedly enti tled to welfare. Government workers are supposed to be enti tled to a secure lifetime job. Teachers and professors believe they are enti tled to losts of educational funding. Students who work hard at all the bullshit in to graduate school and get fancy sounding college degrees believe they are enti tled to high-paying jobs. This situation is especially atrocious at Ivy League schools. Heck Bush decided he was enti tled to be president.
