Dell buys Alienware

In a bid to color up a dull computer line, Dell has agreed to purchase flashy PC maker Alienware.

With the buy, Dell gains a maker of high-performance systems aimed at gamers and other demanding customers. The often pricey Alienware boxes stand out for their colorful designs and high-end components. Dell officials earlier this month had downplayed rumors of an Alienware buy.

Yeah the XPS Renegade is on their site.
They said in an article on Yahoo! news last week that they won’t be doing anything to the way Alienware’s production line works so the only difference is the ownership (supposedly) and the pricing/quality of Alienware’s computers will be the same.

I heard DELL will soon be bringing out a very powerful machine! Named the XPS 600 Renegade it will use quad-SLI (yup 4 graphics cards) with 7800 GTX cards. And to go with it an Intel Pentium Extreme Edition Dual Core 955 overclocked at 4.36GHz coupled with 2GB of DDR2-667 ram. Wether this will actually go into production I don’t know but i saw my computer magazine had mentionned it.

Hey Mels!!!! Sorry if you were offended….To each his own..I really wanted to point out that my Dell Dimension is rock hard and Dell really isn’t as bad as some users point out. As far as OS’s are concerned there are people out there that prefer Linux and Mac OSX and others that disagree…I do feel that Alienware made a great machine for gaming and not only that but it looked great as well.

A great company is gonna get ruined. . They told people that they werent gonna buy it and dissed the rumors. Now we know they cant be trusted.. Probably to stop people from dumping their stock.

Its likely that Dell will use their mass volume buying power to get a better price on those expensive AW guts. Hopefully this will translateinto lower caosts to consumers. But its equally likely it just translate into more money in Dells pocket. A true PC game machine is built by the gamer not a pretty box you spend 3000 dollars on.

Now to the MAC guy I hope youre enjoying all those kick ass games they are macking for your Big Mac. I hear all true gamerz own Macs! There was no need to enter this gaming news story with an intent to dis peecee owners with your amazing mac. My PeeCee with Extra Pain has never crashed I have had programs crash but never widows. Mac doesn’t hold that big of an advantage anymore. In fact its a hindrance if you like lots of games to play

I have 3 Macs a G5 Dual 2Mhz 2GB RAM G4iMac!5″and a G4 powerbook 15″. I also have a Dell PeeCee with Windoze XP (Extra Pain). I don’t use it much since I became a devotee of the Mac but it is solid as a rockno crashes or lockupsno need to phone tech support in INDIAl!!!! lol….it just keeps running on and on like this thread…I find no fault withit. I have heard a lot of complaints about Gateway (now defunct) and Compaq and Dell as well but my Dell Dimension purchased in 2002 runs as well as a PeeCee can run.

hopefully cause Dell is notorious for sucking=bad performance breaking down immediately after warranty poor customer support etc. I was looking at buying a notebook from alien-ware and before I drop $4000 I want to know that the company isn’t going to change

I dont think you will see much change in the company dell’s high end rigs have always been laughed at and i think buying alienware is their way of solving that problem. So chances are very little will change they might implement some of the alienware techniques in midrange machines but that will probably be the only noticeable change in my opinion.
