Should downloading music be free?

Most people will consider downloading music off the Internet to be illegal. However, when done the right way, it should be perfectly legal.

If you have ever used Google to do research or gotten pictures off the Internet, were you breaking the law? The answer is no, because the users of Google aren’t turning around and selling what they have found to make a profit. When a person is downloading songs for personal use, there should be no problem legally, because no one is making a profit off it.

Worried about the artists not being able to make a profit from people downloading? Excuse me, they are making enough money — frankly, I think all of these rappers’ and rock stars’ houses are big enough. The artists are also able to not allow their songs to be on the Internet and the songs can be taken off by the artists, so they really aren’t losing that much money.

The question is no longer should we share music? That’s obvious. The question is now how to we prevent such cartels from their terrible business profiting on the destruction of our culture? What can we do so that there is never another “industrialists against public libraries” debacle? I won’t even honor it with the term debate. We need to stop doing this as a society. We’re like cutters and the profiteers are drinking the blood that pours out from our self inflicted wounds while we stupidly “debate” things that shouldn’t even be concerns like file sharing.

Is uploading publishing? Is a good question. The internet is the universal copying machine and the people before the internet horded the keys to gain access. There are MANY reasons why uploading material and sharing it is a good idea and in the PUBLIC’s interest over publishing greedsters. If the industrialists of the early 1900′s used the courts to stop public libraries the copyright cartel is doing exactly the same thing today.

Overgeneralization and propaganda: “Most people will consider downloading music off the Internet to be illegal. “

Most people indeed do get arrested for uploading there songs thus publishing them. But the fact that we download like crazy does not imply that we buy less CDs;If they go shopping buy a gift or like an artist; they’ll buy the CD!
