Music industry’s digital plans fail

The music industry’s attempts to replace p2p file sharing programs with legitimate music downloads have failed, according to a new report. The report, by OC&C Strategy Consultants, says legitimate, paid-for music downloads earned only $1 Million in 2001 . The report also said that p2p services were responsible for a 5% drop in CD sales in 2001 and this is likely to rise to 10% this year. The report also believes that p2p file sharing is used even more now than at Napster’s peak. Obviously people are not willing to pay for the over-expensive over-limited record industry services and are sticking with p2p programs. Read the full story here.
