We have received a lot of emails this morning about EliteTorrents.org being shut down by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security. Their site is gone, replaced by a large red page with lots of givernment logos and some text stating:
“THIS SITE HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY SHUT DOWN BY THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION AND U.S. IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT
“Individuals involved in the operation and use of the Elite Torrents network are under investigation for criminal copyright infringement”
Upon some further investigation, this is definitely just a DNS hack. Do not panic, they will be back. The topic on their IRC channel is “Latest news:ET Was DNS Hacked (sithlord.)”
A traceroute on the domain leads to a computer at San Diego’s Super Computer Center, allegedly owned by the Department of Homeland Security. At last check however, the domain was not resolving from some sources, so hopefully they are fixing it.
UPDATE: Turns out it was shut down by the DOJ according to this press release
