Barely two weeks after settling cases against 23 file-sharers, British music industry watchdog British Phonographic Industry has sent forth a new crop of lawsuits.
Britain’s High Court has provided the BPI with an order, which would force six ISPs to divulge the names and addresses of 31 individuals it claims are serious peer-to-peer uploaders. The ISPs have been given 14 days to provide the information. Once contacted, the accused will be given the opportunity to settle out of court or face trial.
The new lawsuits mark the second wave of the BPI’s crusade against peer-to-peer users. Of the 26 charged in October 2004, 23 have settled out of court.
