“The writing is on the wall for the future of P2P in the legislative process if not in the courts. Sooner or later everyone will have to accept that fact.” Wayne Rosso Have you heard of Mashboxx yet? If not a good place to start might be to read this story at Slyck.com about Mashboxx. Also one would be wise to read this great interview P2PForums own Drake51 did with Rosso about Mashboxx.
Rosso says of Mashboxx, “Mashboxx is a true P2P client. Nothing is blocked.”..” Mashboxx is not an iTunes or Napster. Far from it. You’ll see. The average Kazaa user is our target”. No it seems that Mashboxx isn’t an iTunes or Napster, because with those services users who pay for the service download the music from fast centralized servers. With Mashboxx, they depend on their paying user’s bandwidth to distribute the company’s content. Despite Wayne’s promises it appears that Mashboxx will indeed filter content. When a user tries to download a nice high quality MP3, they will instead receive a low quality “FM Radio” version of the MP3.
Of course the user has the choice to buy a high quality DRM locked version of the song via Mashboxx. This interesting debate is being played out between both sides in this thread over at Slyck.com We encourage our users to go over and voice their thoughts on it, since Rosso has been actively posting. Rosso seems to have not taken kindly to some users speaking against his promoting this new pay service as a “true” file sharing application. Even going as far as suggesting “Prozac” to one. It also seems as if Mashboxx will be intertwined with Fast Track bringing down that high quality network even more.
