About six million people in the UK now have a fast, always-on net connection via cable or phone lines.
And many of them use their Net connections to download not movies or music, but US TV.
At least, that’s what web tracking company Envisional says.
“Pirated copies of almost every first-run tv show from any of the networks in the United States is now available for free download on the Internet hours after it is shown,” it states. “Many popular UK and European shows – such as Eastenders and Big Brother – are also available, as well as sporting events such as the Olympics.”
With a typical home broadband connection, a download takes a couple of hours, says the company, pointing out the quality of the encoding is high enough to watch comfortably on a computer monitor or, when burned to a CD or DVD, on a telvision.
And about 70% of the downloaders were using BitTorrent, says Envisional
