The following e-mail surfaced at one of the record companies and I guess caused a little stir: “Each day that goes by I get more frustrated with your corporate antics. I have been doing my part to get the word out to local artists and to up-and-coming bands about alternatives to using you and your “suits” with your money signed pupils. I’m all about artistic ingenuity and that is not what you, and the record companies are providing. I will now try twice as hard (this follows your slimy fingers pulling the plug on more p2p clients) to get more pirated music out this year than ever. I have a few pre-releases and cd’s that many thousands of people will be interested in getting. For example, the new Korn album has been leaked for the most part, expect to see it online very soon. I respect a band’s right to make money, but if a band sells it cd’s off it’s website, that’s 100% profit completely eliminating the need for a contract that bites them in the ass every time. You can’t stop us all, and there is a lot of us. And you can’t throw us all in jail, this will be like prohibition of this millennium. Artists are slowly re-evaluating their options and are turning backs in your general direction. The people you are shutting down directly affect the generation which is in turn starting to hate everything you stand for. And you are losing a generation of customers. If you were smart we’d be seeing changes in your company instead of a big scary shadow lurking over companies representing people who simply like digital music and don’t want to pay outrageous prices. I alone, will easily prevent you from obtaining a lot of profit with the help of some friends and my ftp server.” -Amen to that!
