With Suprnova now pimping its bastard child eXeem, and Loki Torrents now reduced to a mouth piece for the MPAA some observers may think the torrent community is in sad shape. However as quick as Loki went away several sites have began to via for the right to take its spot as that “Universal Torrent” site used by those types of downloaders that frequent only one site. The top few contenders appear to be Torrent Spy, ISO Hunt, and a new kid on the block My Bit Torrent.

P2PForums.com has taken a few minutes to talk with the people behind one of these sites. We conducted a short interview via IRC, with the folks from MyBitTorrent.com

P2PForums.com So, when did you guys launch the site?

myBitTorrent “We have had many beta sites over the last 1.5 year. Our final site has been launched on 1 january 2005.”

P2PForums.com How has the traffic been so far? What if anything are you doing to let people know your out here and offering so many torrents?

myBitTorrent “Since LokiTorrent went down, our site is having 4x as much visitors as before. We now have about 12000 unique visitors each day, which is a lot considering we only had about 1000 unique visitors when we launched the final site.”..”We chat a lot with the owners of other BT sites and make advertising deals with them. We also post on other forums to let people know what our site offers.”..” And now we are also doing interviews ;)

P2PForums.com What are some of your plans to help cover the hosting costs? And do you feel its important to keep a balance between enough ads to cover hosting, and not so many ads you drive your users nuts?

MyBitTorrent “We made a deal with someone who covers an amount off our hosting costs. So we don’t really have to worry about that. I personally hate ads, so if it was up to me, I would have none. But as we all know: no ads are impossible, so a good balance between ads and costs is really important. We are trying to keep that balance by NOT putting intrusive ads on the site.”

P2PForums.com Are you worried about any legal troubles this site could bring you? While you are not in the U.S. that is not always enough anymore, as SimonMoon from ShareReactor can attest.

MyBitTorrent “We are not worried at all as our site operates in strict compliance with all local laws and copyright agreements. Also in the country where I’m from it’s 100% legal to offer links to files, so I don’t expect trouble for the time being.”

P2PForums.com What country is that?

MyBitTorrent The Netherlands

P2PForums.com How long before the site will be 100% functional? We noticed a few small things don’t work yet, like account registration.

MyBitTorrent “We are always, I mean ALWAYS, adding or changing features of the site. So there it will be never ready.”

P2PForums.com What are some of your plans for the site in the future? Any features you would like to add or anything like that?

MyBitTorrent “I don’t really know what our plans are for the future. Right now we are trying to get our forums and IRC more active. After that we will see again”

P2PForums.com And whats the address of your IRC server/channel?”

MyBitTorrent irc://irc.fusednetwork.org/mybittorrent

P2PForums.com And finally anything you would like to say to our readers?

MyBitTorrent “I would like to thank all users that have supported us over the last 2 years. Also a special thank to Subashr and JustJonno who supported us from the beginning. We couldn’t have done it without you all!”

We want to thank the guys over at My Bit Torrent for taking the time to answer a few questions for us. We also want to recommend our readers check it out if they are looking for another good Bit Torrent site to add to their book marks. Happy Torrenting

One of the reasons we thought this site would be a good one to get an interview with is this information proudly displayed on their front page.
1. myBittorrent is NOT a tracker, it automatically indexes releases from 1,845 other Bittorrent trackers!
2. myBittorrent is hosted in Japan, Romania + Russia which, for the time being, are not in / being invaded by the USA.
3. myBittorrent is a 100% legal website, in strict compliance with all local laws and copyright agreements.
4. myBittorrent is an anonymous site and does NOT record user ips or user activity. And finally …
5. myBittorrent is the largest Bittorrent site:
- Local Releases: 48,641 – these releases are available to download directly from myBittorrent.com
- Queued Releases: 2 – these releases are queued and will be on myBittorrent.com very shortly
- Remote Releases: 255,859 – these are external releases waiting to be indexed
