Mega industry powerhouse A.O.L. has announced that sometime in early February it will be dropping Usenet. At that time the few AOL customers who know what a newsgroup is, let alone how to use and access them will no longer be able to. P2PForums.com has been able to find three intelligent AOL users who are none to happy about this. “Tom” we will call him says this, “I put in the keyword newsgroups, and I receive this message. Please Note: The AOL Newsgroup service will be discontinued in early 2005. It’s really upsetting. I am a long time Newsgroup fan with no other broadband choice besides A.O.L. in my area.”
P2PForums wanted to get a wider view of AOL customer’s thoughts this shocking development, so we joined a typical AOL chat room. When asking in the room, “Hello, I am from a file sharing news/community webpage. We would like to know what AOL customers think of the company’s decision to drop News Group access.” These are a sample of some of the responses we got.
