Bearshare plans cutting of Gnutella clients

Vinnie Falco, programmer of BearShare (a Gnutella client), recently planning to block XoloX -Zeropaid reported- is now planning to cut off all older Gnutella clients.

There is soon a new upcoming protocol handshake v0.6, Bearshare plans “in not too distant future” to cut off connections from older clients.
While v0.6 adds only a few lines of code it is basically backwards compatible. Also no other vendor thinks of cutting off clients. Again a Bearshare-only idea affecting the whole network. Good or bad idea?
